Volunteer Day 2023
Putting down the digital tools to pick up gardening tools.
Last month the team headed out to Ngā Hau E Whā O Paparārangi marae to lend a helping hand to their gardens. Based in Newlands, the marae has incredible views over the Wellington harbour with a few lawns, vege garden, and perimeter planting. We chucked on our gardening gloves and got stuck into some planting, harvesting flax, and weeding.
Like everyone, the wellbeing of our people and our communities is important to us. This is why we created our “Day for You, Day for Us” programme. The Day for Us is where we bring together our entire team to volunteer for a day to help out one of the many great causes in our community. We look to find something that resonates with us, our work, or our clients. We really enjoy our relationship with Volunteer Wellington and look forward to the opportunity to give back every year.
We want to thank Leighsah and her team from Ngā Hau E Whā O Paparārangi for being incredible hosts and inviting us onto their beautiful marae grounds.
Secondly, we would like the thank Ann from Volunteer Wellington for connecting us with Ngā Hau E Whā O Paparārangi.
Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi marae is deeply involved in the local community, providing emergency preparedness and resilience support when needed while also being a sanctuary for anyone to implement, do or teach Māori kaupapa. Their short film explains their commitment to their long-term projects, which we got to be apart of on Volunteer Day.
