MINISTER OF CONSERVATION OPENS ANCHORAGE HUT
Conservation Minister, Hon. Dr Nick Smith arrived via sea kayak to open the new Anchorage Hut on 11 October 2013 in front of an enthusiastic crowd of invited guests and visitors. The local iwi gave the hut a dawn blessing followed by a lunchtime opening ceremony.
Located on the Abel Tasman Coast Track, one of New Zealand's Great Walks, the hut can be found in the picturesque Anchorage Bay. The 170 square metre Anchorage Hut can sleep 34 guests in four separate bunk rooms and provides cooking facilities for an additional 100 trampers in the camp ground nearby.
A key feature of the hut is the large north facing windows in the common space area which offers expansive views out over the newly planted and regenerated bush to the golden sands and clear blue waters of the bay.
